Shift handover sheets that survive the first busy week

Long handover memos die in the first peak week. Sheets that stick share three traits: one page, named open docks, and unfinished picks listed by zone rather than by essay.

What we watch when coaching

During shift handover coaching we observe who speaks, who writes, and whether the incoming lead asks a single clarifying question. Silence often means the sheet is too vague, not that the shift was calm.

Drop the narrative block

Replace “general comments” with three fixed prompts: open docks, safety notes, and labor moves already agreed. Anything else goes to the daily email, not the changeover table.

Practice on the busy night

Coach at least one changeover during a known busy window. A sheet that works only on a quiet Tuesday will not survive Friday dispatch.
